What is the Document List Dialog?

Because MicroSpell opens and checks only one document at a time, it must keep a list of any additional documents to be checked. The document list serves as the "to-do" list for the speller. (Multiple documents can appear because most methods of opening documents work for any reasonable number of documents.) This dialog enables you to view and edit the document list, to open any of the documents on the list, and to view word counts and other statistics for documents you have already checked.

When you finish checking a document and press the Inbox "Done" button, MicroSpell automatically opens the next unchecked file on this list, if any. (If the Spell|Auto Spell Check on File Open option is enabled, the document is automatically spell checked too.) The checkboxes next to the file names not only show the checked/unchecked status, but can also be used to control the speller: uncheck a checked file to recheck it, or check an unchecked file to skip checking it.

This dialog has a button that invokes the Windows File Open dialog; however, this is not the only way to add files to the list. Any file you open within MicroSpell will be automatically added to the list.

Buttons and Controls

Document List listbox
This listbox displays all of the files you have "opened" within MicroSpell during the current session. A check mark next to the file name indicates that it has already been spell checked. (If you've cancelled the spell check by pressing <Esc> in the Inbox, for example, the document will still be marked as checked.) To recheck a checked file, either uncheck its checkbox, or simply open the file and press the spell check button. There is a right mouse button pop-up menu with commands you can use to edit the items on this list.
Statistics group boxes
The upper group box gives counts for the file currently selected in the document list. The lower one give grand totals for all checked files. You can zero the counts for any checked file (and deduct them from the grand totals) by unchecking its checkbox. If you recheck the checkbox, the counts will be restored, provided you have not closed this dialog since you zeroed the counts. Most of the counts should be self-explanatory. The number of Unique Suspects is the number of words in the Inbox (before any auto-correct or auto-accept actions) when the speller has finished scanning the document; each word is counted once regardless of the number of times it appears in the document. The Total Suspects count is obtained by adding up the number of occurrences of each unique suspect; i.e., it the total of the entries in Inbox Number column.
Display this dialog automatically after checking two or more documents checkbox
When this box is checked, MicroSpell will automatically show this dialog whenever you finish checking a group (two or more) of documents.
Add button
This button displays the standard Windows File Open dialog. This dialog is just one of several ways of augmenting the file list; its association with the Document List dialog does not imply any special importance. This button is disabled if the Inbox is open.
Remove button
This button enables you to remove the currently selected file from the document list. If this file is the one that is currently open, it will be closed as well. If the file has been modified since it was last saved, you'll be given an opportunity to save it. This button is disabled if the Inbox is open.
Open button
This button opens the currently selected file, and closes (an saves, if necessary) the currently open file. It is disabled if the currently open file is selected, or if the Inbox is open. After you open a file, press Close to dismiss this dialog and work with the file. Rather than using the Open button, you can simply double-click any item on the file list to open it and close this dialog. This button is disabled if the Inbox is open.

Pop-Up Menu Commands

Mark All Documents Checked
Marks all documents on the list as having been checked whether or not they actually have been. MicroSpell will not automatically open a document marked as checked, so these files will be ignored when you are checking a group of files.
Mark All Documents Unchecked
Marks all documents on the list as not having been checked whether or not they actually have been. You can use this to recheck all of the documents: issue this command followed by Spell|Spell Check All Unchecked Documents. (If you want all of the suspects that you have accepted to reappear, clear the Accept All list too.)
Remove All
This command removes all of the documents from the list. You'll be prompted to save the currently open document, if necessary. This command is disabled if the Inbox is open.
Remove Checked Documents
This command removes all of the checked documents from the list. You'll be prompted to save the currently open document, if necessary. This command is disabled if the Inbox is open.
Remove Unchecked Documents
This command removes all of the unchecked documents from the list. You'll be prompted to save the currently open document, if necessary. This command is disabled if the Inbox is open.
